Tenting on the Old Camp Ground

Als je regelmatig de radio hebt aanstaan hoor je af en toe een intrigerend mooi nummer. Soms kan je de titel en de uitvoerende(n) opvangen als de presentator deze vermeldt, als dat niet gelukt is kan je op internet een speellijst vinden waar op de minuut nauwkeurig na te zoeken is wat er te horen was.

Zo kom je af en toe mooie dingen op het spoor, waarvan je het bestaan anders waarschijnlijk nooit  zou hebben ontdekt.

Ik hoorde Tenting on the Old Camp Ground, uitgevoerd door Anonymous 4.

Het lied is gecomponeerd door Walter Kittridge, een beroemd Amerikaanse musicus (1834-1905), veel van zijn liederen hadden de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog als thema. Het staat op de cd 1865, waar nog meer nummers uit de Burgeroorlog op staan.

Zijn beroemdste lied, Tenting on the Old Campgroud, werd door beide zijden gezongen. Hij was abolitionist.

Anonymous 4

is een a capella kwartet van vier vrouwen uit New York. Zij zingen voornamelijk middeleeuwse muziek. De CD 1865 is hun laatste gezamenlijke cd.

Op deze cd worden ze begeleid door Bruce Molsky (viool, banjo, gitaar en zang).

Ik houd vooral van mooie harmonieuze koormuziek, er staan naast Tenting nog een aantal prachtige nummers op deze cd.

Als ik mooie koormuziek hoor probeer ik me altijd voor te stellen hoe het nummer zou klinken als El Mishito (het koor waar ik op zit) het zou zingen.
Ik ga een aantal nummers van deze cd inbrengen en hoop dat we er binnen afzienbare tijd eentje op ons repertoire hebben.
We moeten dan wel proberen een bewerking te vinden waarin ook plaats is voor mannenstemmen, want het gecombineerde geluid van sopranen, alten, tenoren en bassen is natuurlijk het allermooist. Onze dirigente gaat het vast voor elkaar krijgen.
